How to Properly Plant Trees?

Basic Tree Planting Tips

Proper tree planting is a great way to assure that your trees will grow properly and healthy. If you want to make sure that you will be able to plant your trees the right way, here are a couple of basic tips that you might want to check out:

Find the Right Area

Pay thought to the needs of your trees. It needs proper sunlight and soil drainage. If you fail to find the right area, no amount of care can make up for this mismatch.

Check Soil Quality

You want it to be moist enough to crumble. If your soil is not prepared, wait for it to dry a little bit or water it just a little bit.

Mark Out the Right Hole

New roots grow rapidly in a hole that is only around two to three times the width of the root ball and not any deeper than necessary. This helps to let the tree stand at the same level as it did in the nursery. Afterward, start digging the hole.

Prepare the Tree Roots

If the tree is bare-root, cut back to healthy tissue if there are any damaged or unhealthy roots. Shorten long-limbed roots as well that do not fit in the hole. Scoop some soil into the hole to create a pile on which to spread the roots. Scoop another shovelful to ensure that the plant is steady.

Mulching

After covering the roots, spread about a 3-inch layer of mulch over the ground to within a few inches of the tree’s trunk. This helps to insulate the roots to help to keep them growing long into the fall. You can get some mulch from a good tree service company or you can make use of some dried up leaves and grass from your yard.

Water Well

Make sure to slowly soak the ground beneath the tree. Keep the mulched area free of any weeds and pests as well. This helps to ensure that your trees are well-maintained and that there’s no need for you to call for a tree cutter anytime soon.
